Toot Toot

Did you ever have a super awesome idea for a craft project and when you put it together it came out exactly how you wanted it to???

Yeah,

me neither...

Until tonight anyway!

You would not believe the magic that has been happening down in my sewing room.

Very excited for next weeks TuTu Tuesday.

Back in the Bathroom: Vanity Re-Do

I found a solution for this space here.

Best news ever?
It didn't cost me a dime!

I remembered a vanity that I had in my room as a child and called Mom to see if she still had it hanging around.

She found it...
In rough shape.
 And dirty.
 I can fix it.
Found some spray paint in the basement. Pulled out 500 left over staples.
I had a gray sheer panel left from this project. Cut it up, ran it under the ruffle foot on my sewing machine.
Used ribbon and Mod Podge to cover the exposed staple holes.
Fits perfectly in the space
and
looks great!

Next step?
Decorate & Accessorize!

TuTu Tuesday 5/28

Sold Out!

**Attention family and friends**
I am looking everywhere for more of these pink cowgirl hats and I can't find them!
If you see any while out and about, please give me a ring.

I also sold one of these:

I have another... just hanging out in my shop... getting NO love.

I don't even love it!
So, this week I am ripping it apart and picking some new colors.

I also found the hats in black and brown and I am working on cute color combinations for those.

Check my shop later this week!

My UGLY Bathroom

I have a little half bath in the eaves off my bedroom.
It is tiny, awkward and ugly!
I wish I had taken a picture when I first bought the house. Every surface was covered in hideous, striped, floral wallpaper. Something like this:
but smaller... and darker.

Taking it down was a pain and the walls were in rough shape.
I had my brothers add beadboard with rail and my sisters helped me put up a textured, paintable wallpaper to hide the imperfections in the plaster.

Better...

It is my birthday this week and I have decided I need a prettier, more functional bathroom.

First, get rid of that sink!

Easier said than done. The plumbing was ancient and had to be replaced and there were no water shut offs. We had to shut it off for the entire house. Not a problem for a 30 minute switch out a sink project... Unless you get everything back together and turn the water on and discover a flood in the downstairs bathroom and the leak is below the floor...

Daddy fixed it.

Yeah!

Now there is the space on the opposite wall that has to be dealt with.

To do:
paint beadboard
touch up wall paint
figure out storage and décor.

Long Weekend

Sometimes, on the Friday before Memorial Day, the kids get an extra day off from school.
It all depends on the number of snow days our district uses.
If they use too many the kiddies have to go in, if we have one to spare they get a four day weekend.
This year we only used one day.
Something that never happened when I was in school.
How do they make up for that?
They give them Thursday off too!
That means five days off...

Oh, and my brother is visiting from Maryland (unannounced) with his wife and three children.

And, there is that very involved DIY project I have been working on for two weeks and is supposed to be finished and posted Sunday.

Then there are the two family birthdays we are celebrating.

It is going to be a crazy long weekend.

Rainy Sunday

Dark, dreary, rainy Sunday.
The plan was to prep the ground and build a garden box today so that we can move our plants outside.
That didn't happen!
So...
Today's DIY is on myself. Except I am not actually doing it myself.
My cousin is on her way over here to give me a cut, color and highlights.
I am pretty excited.

I will have to move our little sprouts outside sometime this week or over the long holiday weekend.

TuTu Tuesday 5/14

CassidyChristy does custom orders!

is my best seller.
Also, my personal favorite!

I was over the moon when a very special etsy shopper order one for each of her two daughters.

With some changes...

For the youngest, she requested blue.
With a black poodle, no problem.

The big sister poodle skirt was a little trickier.
Her 9 year old wanted a felt skirt, in purple. I went with a classic circle skirt and a satin covered elastic waist band.
I had never done one of these before, but I think it came out awesome!
Added the ribbon leash after.

More importantly, the customer LOVES it!

Don't forget! If you don't see what you are looking for in my shop, just send me a message.

I think I will be adding felt poodle skirts to my shop very soon.

DIY House Numbers

Even though it has gotten chilly again, I still wanted to do my other outside DIY this week.

Here is what I had on my front porch.

Beside it being really, really UGLY, the mailbox is too high for me to reach into.
I'm kinda short.

I went to the craft store and picked up some wooden numbers and 5X7 blocks.
You will also need pretty paper, craft paint, foam brushes and outdoor Mod Podge.

<After this pic I remembered that I still had spray paint left from my flower pots so I used that instead to make it match>

First you are going to want to paint your base blocks and numbers. I did three coats.

Cut your paper to fit your blocks. Using your outdoor Mod Podge, coat the face of your block and center the paper. Add another coat on top.

Let it dry completely, do it again... and again.

I stuck my numbers on while the final coat was still wet.

After it dries completely, add a few finishing nails. If your numbers will be exposed to weather, you should add a few coats of clear acrylic spray for extra water proofing.

Add your choice of hanging hardware to the back.

I used a piece of trim across the back and attached that to the house.

And I got rid of the golden stallion mailbox!

The old mailbox seems to have rubbed some of the paint off the siding and I have to fill the old holes and re-paint those. I am also going to paint the wooden trim piece and screws to match the house.

Thanks Daddy for helping with the drill!

Lazy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day

Took my babies to get our nails done today with my sister and mother.

Then we lounged on the couch all day napping and watching movies.

Love my girls!

DIY post tomorrow.

TuTu Tuesday 5/7

So, I have become a little bit obsessed with my dog...

A few friends have suggested that CassidyChristy's tutu cuteness needs to expand to include our furry four-legged friends!

These are not up in the Etsy shop yet, I am trying to decide if they fit in with my children's items, research the market, build an inventory...

What do you think?

Should I open up a new puppy shop?

Would you be put off shopping for your child and seeing it next to dog items?

Would anyone even buy a tutu for their dog???

Decisions, decisions...

Romance makes people sick!

According to my 6 year old...

Romance makes people SICK!

So mom, you know all those channels we have?

yeah

Well I don't think we should watch those romance ones anymore.

OK, why?

Romance makes people sick.

Ummmm

People cry when they watch romance. When people cry they get snot. Sometimes people lick their snot, that can make them sick.

You're absolutely right kid.

Softball Mom

Got to be "dug-out mom" tonight!
Did you know that 6 & 7 year old girls get REALLY annoyed when you keep getting their names mixed up???
Oh well, none of them knew my name either.

Stacked flower pots

I am not really into gardening but I am into cuteness.

My girls really wanted to start a garden this year, and I found this really cute PIN.

We did some planting last weekend and our little seedlings are starting to sprout.

Not growing fast enough for me.

We went out and bought some already grown for now.

Started by priming and painting some flower pots.

My dad stopped by after the second coat of purple and told me I should have laid cardboard down first... Oh well, it will grow out!

You will need a 4 foot length of rebar that will fit through the hole in the bottom of your pots.
Push (hammer) it into the ground where you want your tower.

The first, largest pot rests flat on the ground. Add potting soil and plants. Start stacking pots in opposite directions filling with flowers as you go.

LOVE IT!
